By: Diana E. Avena  10 -Divine Mercy
Day 1
Sto. Tomas de Villanueva celebrated its 53rd Founding Anniversary which began with a Thanksgiving Mass at 7:30am on Septermber 19. A representative from each section wore the costume of their class saint. The church was filled with lively vibes.
Mrs. Nina Barcelo led the opening prayer to start the 2nd part of the celebration. Ms. Alexis Ramirez of Grade 6 Padre Pio served as the conductor for the National Anthem. Our ever gorgeous principal Dr. Marcella D. Bejado officially initiated the program as she gave her opening remarks. Ms. Rizalyn Gularez and Ms. Judy Ann Pecayo were the masters of the ceremony. Everyone was excited as the program started with the cheer of the preschool pupils. They were joined by their parents and guided by their supportive teachers Mrs. Christina Santoyo, Mrs. Marissa Bubutan and Ms. Rhoana Marie Reyes. The pupils were given certificates to acknowledge their participation and effort. Moreover, the Grades 1, 2, and 3 pupils did not disappoint the crowd as they were very enthusiastic with their performance. They were skilful as they effectively used their pompoms, sashes, and ribbons. The program ended well. Everybody got the chance to showcase their talents and received awards such as Best Voice Projection, Most Energetic and Most Synchronized Group.
The K-POP Dance Craze Contest followed where the Grades 4-6 pupils presented their talents as they imitated their favorite K-Pop idols. The atmosphere was bursting with energy! All were winners, but the Grade 4 and the Grade 6 really did leave such an impact on the judges with Grade 6 – St. Ferdinand the III of Castille declared as the champion. Still, everyone did their best and they sure did not make anybody disappointed.
After the program, a Grade 10 student from St. Thomas of Aquinas serenaded the crowd with her lovely and enticing voice.
In the afternoon, a Bingo game took place. Stvians enjoyed the game as they feel motivated and determined in winning the game. Parents and outsiders also participated in the said event. As the first day of the two-day celebration ended, everybody was so happy and satisfied as they went home with pride and well- deserved awards.

Day 2
As the 2nd day of the Foundation Day continued, all were thrilled about the cheer dance competition from the high school students. The program was hosted by Ms. Elise Sahagun and Ms. Rhoana Marie Reyes The cheerdance started with the opening prayer led by Ms. Rechelle Carolino. The judges were Sir Zandro Cruz, Ms. Regine Manlangit and Mr. Christian Santos. The Grade 10 students were picked to perform first with their ‘Diva’ concept inspired by Lady Gaga. They indeed channeled their inner divas with this cheer routine that made the crowd amazed as ever. The Grade 9 students came next with a ‘Disney’ theme, wearing the colors green and white as their motif. It was a performance that would surely bring you back to your favorite childhood Disney movies. Enough about cute things, it is now time for Rock and Roll. The Grade 7 students walked in the stage with heavy makeup, ripped jeans, dyed hair, and all-black attires with their music being songs from popular rock bands like Queen, Bon Jovi, and many more. Last but definitely not the least, were the Grade 8 students with their ‘Anime’ concept. Their costumes were simple – printed white shirts and leggings but they definitely proved that simplicity doesn’t always mean dull. Their routines and steps were precise that made the crowd cheered even louder. What a show, it was! The judges must have had a hard time deciding which grade level would bring home the bacon. Although we know that even without awards, they are all already winners since they did their best, and the performances all came out amazing.
The awarding came and the Grade 10 students were held as the 3rd runner up, the Grade 9 came as 2nd. The Grade 7 students got the 1st runner up while the Grade 8 students were announced as the champions.
The program ended with the performance of the Grade 9 student Yumi Lauc as she sang her very unique and refreshing version of the song “Location” by Khalid. It was such a joy to know that there are so many talented students here in Sto. Tomas de Villanueva.
That was it for the 53rd Foundation Day celebration of our beloved school, Sto. Tomas de Villanueva Parochial School. I hope the students became more open into embracing the talents that they have because what these two days proved was that everybody has their own talents in a way, they just need the right opportunity or the courage to showcase them.
Again, happy 53 years, STVPS! It had been another blessed year.
