Many are teachers and many more are good teachers. But what does it mean to be an outstanding teacher?  Outstanding teachers raise the bar.  Outstanding teachers not only learn what the students know, they understand the methods with which students can effectively apply the knowledge.  Outstanding teacher cares about student achievements and then push the student to higher levels.  These are the markings of an effective and outstanding teacher.
In commemoration of the World Teacher’s Day, Rev. Fr. Orlando B. Cantillon, school director of Sto. Tomas de Villanueva Parochial School, recently awarded six teaching staffs as the most outstanding teachers.  The awarding was originally set last September 20, 2014 in time with the celebration of the 48th Foundation Anniversary of the school, but due to weather disturbances, all school activities were moved to October 4, 2014, the first Friday of the Month.
The Student Coordinating Body, with its moderator, Mrs. Maria Lourdes Solinap, were tasked to solicit one vote from the student for their most favored teacher.  The following were unanimously chosen winners for the search:
Most Outstanding Teacher        Mr. Joseph S. Cruz
First Runner Up                Ms. Marvie Grace L. Tejada
Second Runner Up            Mrs. Francisca D. Bolivar
Third Runner Up                Mrs. Ingrid C. Castillo
Fourth Runner Up            Mrs. Ma. Nenette D. Rogel
Fifth Runner Up                Mr. Marcelino V. Malabanan

The runners-up received 2,000.00 pesos each and a certificate of recognition while the Most Outstanding Teacher received P10,000.00 pesos and a certificate of recognition courtesy of Rev. Fr. Orlando B. Cantillon.  A parent who was present during the awarding said that the initiative will help boost the morale of the teachers and will improve their effort in establishing a healthier relationship with students.  The entire teaching personnel were grateful to the School Director for his recognition of the efforts of the teachers as the school’s prime movers.
Congratulations teachers.  We pray that you will continue to inspire students to learn and be fruitful in all their endeavors.
