The Pasig Diocesan Schools System, in cooperation with the Philippine Sports Commission highlighted the opening of the 2014 Olympics on July 18, 2014 with the theme: “Cheerful Holy Heroes as One!”  The opening ceremony was held at Phil Sports Arena, Pasig City.

The Opening Ceremony of the Olympics 2014 was participated in by the following schools: Sto. Tomas de Villanueva Parochial School, Sto. Niño Parish School, Tipas Catholic School, Holy Family Parochial School, Sta. Rosa Catholic School, Escuela Catolica de San Sebastian, Bicutan Parochial School, Sto. Niño Catholic School, Colegio de Santa Ana, Pateros Catholic School, and Pasig Catholic College.

The program started with the entrance of National and PaDSS Colors, STVPS Drum and Lyre Corps, athletes from PaDSS Member Schools headed by their respective school administrators and personnel.  It was followed by the Prayer Service of Bishop Mylo Hubert C. Vergara, D.D, the Philippine National Anthem was led by STVPS Drum and Lyre Corps with Mr. Drean Sabuco, STVPS Music Teacher, conducting.  Rev. Fr. Orlindo F. Ordoña, PaDSS Superintendent, welcomed the participants.  

Bishop Mylo Hubert Vergara was accompanied by eleven athletes from different participating schools to light the torch after which the oath of sportsmanship was headed by Pateros Catholic School.  A warm-up Zumba was done to attune athletes of the day’s competition.  Rev. Fr. Orlindo F. Ordoña formally opened the PaDSS Olympics.  

Aside from the Bishop who arrived early at the venue, the following school directors who were also present:  Rev. Fr. Orlindo F. Ordoña, Director of Bicutan Parochial School; Rev. Fr. Orlando B. Cantillon, Director of STVPS; Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Hipolito, Director of Escuela Catolica de San Sebastian; Rev. Fr. Juvi Coronel, Director of Tipas Catholic School; Rev. Fr. Jorge Billosillo, Director of Holy Family Parochial School; Rev. Fr. Paul Balagtas, Director of Sto. Niño Catholic School; and Rev. Fr. Hokan M. Samson, Director of Sto. Niño Parish School.  

On the other hand, during one of the Director’s Council Meeting last June 16, 2014, Rev. Fr. Orlando B. Cantillon, shared his 4-point reflections: play to enjoy, play to make friends, play to realize personal potentials and play to win.  Rev. Fr. Abraham M. Cruz, STVPS Chaplain, was also present during the event.

Mr. Neil Cundangan of Pasig Catholic College, Ms. Lhove Rodriguez of Tipas Catholic School and Mrs. Cris Cruz of Colegio de Santa Ana were the masters of ceremonies.
