In commemoration of the 66th Anniversary of the United Nations, the Sto Tomas de Villanueva Parochial School celebrated the United Nations Day last October 24, 2011. A special commemorative celebration was held, organized by the Social Studies teachers lead by Mrs. Helen Aquino (MAKABAYAN head). Mrs. Susan Nahag, Ms. Rozeane Taliño, Rufina Abucot and other MAKABAYAN teachers (Jelisa Victorino, Joel Yacap, Great Allan Ong, Romina Roque, Roxanne Vilbar, Drean Sabuco, Rafael Rojo and Celly Chico) helped in achieving the specific goal of the department. The event aimed to raise social awareness and an opportunity to reflect on the different cultural diversity of each nation.
Vibrant colors surrounded the campus as flags of different countries were displayed, added by the iconic outfits of the different countries modeled by carefully selected students. As early as 7:00 in the morning, Students, parents, teachers and staffs were gathered for a social celebration.
At 8:00 am they held a simple parade along the streets of Evangelista where the pre-school, grade pupils and high school students modeled their beautiful and unique outfits of the countries of the world. The celebration then continued to its main venue, the STVPS quadrangle.
Jessa Vienna Samson, third year student, opens the event as she sings a heart warming invocation “Lord Heal Our Land”, followed by singing the national anthem lead by Christia Lynette Piduca (1st year student). Dr. Leo Galve, the school principal formally opens the celebration with an inspiring thought. Brief history and purpose of the UN celebrations were delivered by Mark Daryll Reyes (4th year) and Lea Tumabotabo (3rd year). The much awaiting presentation of Nations was followed. Students lively present different countries, its traditional dress and culture. The joyous celebration continued with numerous songs and dance numbers from preschool, Grades 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, High school students and MAKABAYAN Teachers. Angelo Barabad and Joachim Lim serenade the beautiful and elegant participants. We are blessed of having a fair weather.  The parents were very supportive of their children. Our alumni also shared their time in witnessing the event.
The said event was hosted by Teacher Jilline Batayo of the Preschool department and was followed by the Living Rosary.
In behalf of Makabayan Department, we are extending our heartfelt gratitude to everyone (admin, faculty, staff, students, alumni and parents) in making the celebration a meaningful and a successful school activity.
